Title: Enh. Req.: Preserve file timestamps on files transfered via FTP
Post by: ethervoice on July 25, 2010, 08:07:34 PM
When I ftp a file to my DNS-323 the timestamp from the original file is not preserved on the DNS-323 copy. I've tried with two different FTP clients. Both had their preferences set to preserve timestamps. No joy.

Please add support for timestamp preservation. Thx.

I use SyncBackSE to backup 3 computers to the DNS-323 and it does preserve timestamps... sort of. If I set the device timezone to GMT-4, all files have their original modification date + 4 hours and then the creation date gets changed to that same date. A file created at 15:32 and modified at 16:43 has its modification time changed to 20:43 and the creation time to 20:43. I also tired filezilla but it didn't preserve timestamps.
Sounds like a joke but its true (sadly).

Firmware 1.08

I want to use FTP also to backup from my QNAP to my DNS-323. This will never work because the DNS-323 FTP server is not supporting setting time and date stamp. What a bad thing.

Do you have a solution?

I don't know if you guys understand this, but, the not preserving the time & date stamps does not prevent you from being able to use the DNS-323 to store backups - I've had a DNS-323 since 2006, and it's primary use is to hold backup copies of my data.

A backup is nothing more than another copy of the data, preferably on a different storage medium.
