Hi,
I'm trying to set up my D-link dir-655 router, D-link DGS-1024D unmanaged switch, and a cisco sr224 unmanaged switch.
When i connect just one switch to the router, everything functions properly. However, as soon as i connect the second switch to the first switch, all connectivity is lost. Both switches are auto sensing, but i tried with both standard and crossover cables to no avail.
What am I doing wrong here, this sounds like it should be a pretty simple setup. Just trying to connect two switches to one router.

Switch 1 to port 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 on dir-655
Switch 2 to port 2 or 3 or 4 or 1 on dir-655
and let dir-655 do DHCP; NAT; UpnP and multicast.
Make sure dhcp range fits switch ports numbers.

thanks so much for the help, i'll give it a go.
one question, what do you mean by Make sure dhcp range fits switch ports numbers. do you mean make sure the dhcp range is large enough so that there are enough ip addresses for all the ports or...?

Count the "number" of available Ethernet ports after successfully connecting the two switches to your router. This will be the "minimum" number of IP addresses required for the "wired" ports. Do not forget the wireless 'connections."
