I had the same problem, you need to down grade the firmware to 1.02, it worked great, Also clear all your internet cookies and temp files first, it helps with the drive format hanging at 94%. But be careful I am the guy that posted I cannot upgrade to 1.03. I down graded to format my 2TB WD drive. I am still waiting to hear from dlink's outstanding support.

Thanks for the update but I have install firmware 1.02 and it could detect my hard drive before I upgrade it to 1.03.  I have put the drive to format in windows 7 and it formated fine.  It seems my 2 drives are ok but the DNS-321 couldn't detect my drives.
