Title: Using USB port with HDD as FTP server
Post by: wfaure on August 03, 2010, 08:27:33 PM
Hello everyone,

Is there a way to set the HDD connected to the USB port on DIR-825 to be a ftp server? In other words, can I connect to the HDD from outside my network?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Short answer.... No.

This is because the router is just converting the USB connection to an IP protocol.  Essentially, "wrapping" the USB signal on TCP/IP.  There's no way to have an FTP client access the USB signal directly.

You'll need to set up a FTP server in order to serve up any data that the USB drive would have stored on it.
