I bought the DWA-556 quite some time ago, and ever since I installed it I've had a lot of problems with randomly occurring blue-screens. These blue-screens seemed awfully random, related to ntfs.sys, atapi.sys and a lot of memory-related errors (and memtest86 confirms the RAM is alright).
Just a few days ago I decided to remove the adapter, using a cable instead, and now everything is running perfectly! So what's wrong?
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, my motherboard is an Asus P5Q-E SE, I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 and a Sapphire Radeon HD 4870. I've also tried all the newest drivers both from D-link and from Atheros, with no improvement.
Thank you for your attention. :)

I have been having similar issues. In my case, they are related to athrx.sys.

Hi,
I have recently purchased the DWA-556 and had random blue-screens and restarts on Win 7 Pro 64-bit.
After searching a bit I have found that if you update the driver for DWA-556 within Windows to Atheros drivers, the product works fine !
I have downloaded these drivers from:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atheros.htm
The AR5*** / AR9xxx is the one that I have used (I actually followed someones post about this and can't find that URL).
Give it a try, and I hope that you find this helpful.
