I left my laptop on over night and it dropped the connection.
In the logs:
...disconnected for reason: Authentication Failed
In the logs i also see a lot of

Is there something I should change? I'm getting tired of random drops

What encryption and wireless mode and band are you using? What is the model of your wireless card on your LT?
-
I was using WPA2 - AES - 2.4 g & n 20/40Auto - Channel 6
Laptop has a Intel 5100 AGN.
As for now, I have disabled the encryption and used MAC Filtering. Only prob is it will be inconvenient when guests come over and want to connect.
-
Been hearing alot of word lately about Intel wireless. Wonder if there is an issue here too. How about trying G mode only at 2.4Ghz?
As for guests, do you have a lot of guest that come over? I just keep my password on the router and any comes over I just give that to them. No big reason to have guest accounts and such if you don't get a lot of guest traffic.

There has been a lot of post recently about wireless issues, Hmmhh we must investigate this and create a firmware :).
-
Hmm.... Well I got the DGL4500 for the N network so I could stream stuff over the network faster. Going G would defeat the purpose.
1.22NA fixed the wireless errors / packet drops so it isn't as bad as 1.21NA however.
-
I would try G mode only at 2.4Ghz and then N mode only at 2.4Ghz and see what happens. Again, N only provides a faster connection and doesn't mean faster xfer rates. Seems like N is still a big issue with every router. 2.4Ghz should be good though. I use it. If your still loosing connection then you need to check the PCs wireless settings and drive. There has been issues with Intel and other wireless brands.
-
Way I think about it is Wireless G is like a Edge connection with your cellphone, but Wireless N is like a 3G or 4G connection. Sure, 3G is faster, but theres less towers, which means less signal. So you can either go with more slower signal (and this faster rate) or less faster signal. Rule of thumb I use, if you have less then 70% signal level, use G. More, try using N if compatible.

Try the new update 1.23NA.
-
Updating to newer FW is not going to resolve his issue i believe. I think there is an issue with the LT wireless Intel card not keeping alive the connection over a long period of time if left unattended.
-
Well i didn't have any issues when I was on my DGL-4300 so I don't think it's my intel card.
I left the comps on over night again to test it out and my router dropped connections on the wired and wireless
-
Ok, sounds like it's the 4500 then. Even after doing a factory reset and using default settings does the router do the same thing? If so then I would contact Dlink for RMA man. Let us know.
-
I might give 1.23NA a try. Is there anyway to rollback to 1.22NA if it is worse?
-
I love how everyone is so against FW updates.
-
Not against updating, just advising that if it works, your not missing out on anything. If your having problems, troubleshoot everything and then use updates as a last resort.
-
Furry is right no one is against upgrading. It is just that if you upgrade we don't want you to start complaining that it has more issues than your last firmware. We have already seen people who have upgraded to 1.22 complain. We still don't know how 1.23 will act so if you don't want to be one of the people affected don't upgrade and just play with the settings.
-
+1 Furry and LIME (hehehe)
Updating your firmware only updates the feature set that was included in that firmware release. Theres nothing magical about them. And alot of times they seem to magically fix problems because in the process of updating, your resetting your settings, which also resets your security. So it gives a illusion that it fixes the problem, but really it was just the default setting restore that fixes it. And since its harder to go forward, then backward, its something you should do with caution.

Actually... I had quite a bit of wireless errors and dropped packets while using 1.21NA. I flashed it to 1.22NA and the wireless errors went way down and the dropped packets were minimal. Around .2% of the total amt of packets transferred.
However my internet was still getting dropped for some odd reason so I updated to 1.23NA. I have yet to see a drop so far... hopefully it can keep it up.
-
Let us know JL how it goes...

Yes there is indeed a way to roll back. Though I can't promote downgrading since its against the forum rules, But hey have you ever heard of your best friend google?
-
You know Google too? I heard he is one baaaaad mutha...
Hehe. Too bad about Wave though. I was in its beta and sandbox. :'(

Well so far it hasn't dropped my wireless internet or wired. It's been around 1.5 days.
I did notice a problem when online gaming (WOW/SC2) tho... the ping starts jittering. When it happens, I ping say www.google.com -t and let the ping run for a bit. It seems like every 4th ping gets a spike. This problem only sometimes happens tho, but I close the game and run the ping again and it goes back to normal again. I also tried doing the same thing on my wired desktop and 0 jitter so it is a wireless problem.
