I just recently hooked up my new DGL-4500 and I have everything set up to where both direct line and wireless work. On the main computer (direct line connection), the speed is incredible, exactly how fast I'd want it. However, the wireless signal strength leaves a lot to be desired. On the router's status page I'm getting a signal strength of less than 20% directly above the router. I'm pretty sure this is a strong router, and I probably just need to tamper with some settings to get it to perform better. Just in case, here are my speedtest results (these are two stories above the router).

If you ask me, that's just plain weird... I'm most certainly doing something wrong...
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

So what wireless mode and band are you using. I presume mixed defaults? How far away is the router from the wireless PC? Speed tests are mainly for wired connections and will fluxuate greatly for wireless and depending on how the wireless is set up.
What FW version is loaded.

Ok, heres my question..How far away is the router from the computer. Two stories up yes, but straight up? What kind of floors? Router settings will only get you so far, and the signal strength is directly proportionate to the signal rate.

I have it setup to use 2.4Ghz on 802.11n only (heard it was faster). I wouldn't say this router is directly above, but it is pretty close. I'll mostly be using it around 2 stories above it. I'm not sure how to describe the floors other than your typical house.
EDIT
I tested out the connection on Windows (I was on Mac OS X when testing) and it's around 4 times better than in OS X. I was getting around 160 kbps down on OS X, and in Windows I'm getting around 500 kbps down. Could this be an issue with OS X?

I happen to be on OSX 10.6 and I get high speeds however I'm on the same level and about 20ft away in the living room. What is your speeds when your on the same level?

Could be, but it also could just be a coincidence too. you kind of need to be doing the test at the exact same moment, with both laptops in the same place to tell. And even then..you can still get different results. Your better off testing what Furry says. Get on that floor and run a test, then get in the same room, then try a wired connection, and if still bad, bypass the router all together. Also, what internet plan do you pay for? I would just google it..but Insight blocks anyone from their sales page but Insight Customers...which is just silly. Also, their broadband speedtest crashed all three browsers I tried it in. Hopefully your not using it for your tests or I bet thats your problem right there.
