I was wondering if anyone here would know if the DGL-4500 would work in Ireland.

I have had bad experiences with other routers and I think that this one should work alot better
from what I have heard and found out about this router.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Well I think there's a European version, I know the one's discussed here are a North American version, and specifically has NA firmware.

As for network, I believe it should work. At the end of the day it is just a router nothing more. The only thing you won't be able to do is update its firmware with any thing else but a N/A firmware. But yes the router should work in Ireland. That's if you guys use Ethernet cables to connect to each other :) No dial up!

 It should not affect your performance at all. Forget about the firmware. A router is a router no matter what, just because you move its location does not mean it will stop working.

I know that basic networking is probably global however i would use caution when over seas. I believe that there could be different protocols in use over seas that we may or maynot see here in the U.S. I NA means North America only. I would contact DLink before hand and ask them if there is other FW for people that are not in the U.S. to be sure.

I think the restriction on NA firmware is that you can't put in on a router that was purchased in Europe or elsewhere...

Well first off if your looking for the one compatible with 3G over USB, you will need the European one. Otherwise, I don't think your router maters in way of compatibility, just your ISP. Do you have DSL, ADSL, Cable(broadband), or 3G? The only think specific I can think about ireland is some their actual infrastructure is wireless, so they have a reallly high latency rate. Also, their starting to crack down on pirating. Other then that, should be in the clear. Cheers!
