Hi
i am new to the NAS world so please be gentle
i have just purchased the dns323, and the problem i am having is Easy Search will not find the dns
i am running Win7. the dns is connected to a router which is connected to comp.
i dont know the IP of the dns. standard IP finds nothing.
i ran latest 4.4 Easy Search still nothing
i have searched these forums and found nothing relating to my problem
im lost as to what to do
Thanks in advance

that is normally caused by a computer's firewall... or, the dns and your computer does not have the same lan segment.
if you don't have computer firewalls, try these other ways to access the configuration page of your dns:
a) use "dlink-xxxxxx" where the x'es are the last six characters of the mac add of the dns (found underneath)
b) while your dns is connected to your router, go to start>computer>network... you should see your dns there
c) temporarily connect your computer straight to the dns, assign static ip on pc of 192.168.0.2, access 192.168.0.32
d) log in to your router and look for the list of dhcp clients and search for your dns

Is your router configured to be a DHCP server?
Did you try logging-in to your router and find all connected devices' IPs?

only firewall i have is windows firewall (EDIT: just checked firewall, is disabled)
i dont understand what u mean by "use dlink-xxxxxx ". what exactily do u mean use??
i dont believe my router is DHCP. i went into router but couldnt find any " find IP devices" or list of devices

deeper inspection into router
DCHP is enabled and...
found dns and found dns IP. browser IP search finds nothing
saw a dns setting. says only use auto detected dns keep that?
or change to only user detected dns?
and router firewall active, but disabling it. still cant find dns

I would leave your router's firewall enabled unless you want to be hacked from the outside world. Also, DHCP should likely be enabled so keep that so.
You don't actually need to use the "Easy Search Utility" at all. Use it as a coaster or throw it in the bin :)
Temporarily disable any Windows Firewall/AntiVirus/Blocker software
Use the "reset" button on the DNS-323 to restore the settings to default manufacturers settings
Open up Internet Explorer or other browser and enter:
http://dlink-xxxxxx
Where xxxxx is the last 6 characters of the MAC address printed on the base of your DNS-323. (Suggested above). This will attempt to access the DNS-323 by it's network name rather than it's IP address which is currently unknown as your router automatically assigned it one.
Login to web administration area and assign the NAS a static IP address or a friendlier name (such as "NAS") to avoid future confusion.
-
You can also check the router's DHCP assignment table to see what IP address is assigned to the DNS-323 and enter that directly into the browser's address field.
