Title: Problem with backing up to the DNS-321 over wireless
Post by: zachlac on August 26, 2010, 05:00:37 AM
I'm attempting to copy large amounts of files (not necessarily large files) to the DNS-321 over a wireless-g router with no jumbo frames.  It seems that if I'm trying to do this backup, the DNS-321 drops connection.  I don't notice this with smaller amounts of files or when I'm just browsing the device, only when I'm doing backups involving 1000 files.  Attaching a network cable fixes the problem.  Has anybody noticed this problem, and have they found a solution?  Is there recommended software which will maintain connectivity better on a wireless connection?

Wireless is just a really bad idea for volume backups, why not just do the volume with a wire?

What exactly are you experiencing and why do you think the DNS-321 is dropping. I'd be more inclined to suspect your wireless link is simply disconnecting.

Well I think the problem is your wireless connection but to help you better you need to provide what specific equipment is connected.  The NAS is not wireless so what is it connected to.  The computer sending files, how is this connected to wireless as well.  If you're using two wireless routers, are they bridged?  If they are routers, are they using third party firmware?

Either way, I think you will find the problem is in the wireless connection.  Look for signal strengths and see if they tend to drop periodically.

Your feedback will help us assist you.  I suspect you will end up posting this problem on a forum for your wireless devices.
