Hello all, just bought a 655 to replace a wbr 2310.
heres the skinny.
currently only have 1 N device (more to come in the future I hope) and 5 G device (not usually all on at once) any way, in mixed mode, either B/G/N or G/N my N card, Linksys WUSB 300N, connects at awful speeds, a mere 13mbps. far slower than G. My G devices connect from 38mps-54mps depending on position in the house.
If in just N mode, I easily and reliably get full 300mbps on the N card.
If in G only mode (my current setting) the G devices work normally, just the same as in mixed, but the N card connects at a stable 54mbps.
Any thoughts to whats going on?
I feel i have tried every setting combination here.
20/40 is set to auto, but have tried stragiht 20.
running WPA2 only, AES
I have my wifi in hidden mode, dissabled SSID
QOs tried both on and off
I have an A4 which i upgraded to the latest 1.3 firware, then down graded to 1.21 then back again. nothing changed there.
its always the same situation. reguardless of other settings, if i just change the mode and nothing else i get those results. and what is strangest to me is the 13mbps in mixed mode for the N card. why slower than G? and in G it max's out? I can understand in N only mode that it would work, as there are no other competing signals.
but seriously 13mbps? I am sure you can see why i run G only mode now. But if thats the case i wasted too much money going for the N router, and that makes me made, only reason i bought it was for mixed mode. and i am a realist, i dont expect to get the full 300 in mixed, but i woudl like to be in the 100 neighborhood, and i think that is reasonable.
I have the latest card drivers and have tried forcing the settings on the card itself for N netorks. I have th options but it makes no difference. all my machines run Win 7 pro. and i think thats about all the info i have right now.
thank you for your time, and please help if you can. I am open to all suggestions.

Try setting the RTS threshold to 2347 and use the windows wireless manager, not the linksys'

i am using the windows manager though i did try the linksys for a bit. i will try changing that setting though. i will let you know. thanks for the speedy reply!

alrighty, i gave that RTS setting a try and that made no differnce. I woul actually say it made it a bit worse on the G devices.
But thanks to you, you had me poking around in the advanced wifi section and noticed the "extra wireless protection option" and i looked that up, and it turns out i am suposed to turn that off if having issues in mixed mode. and i did and now its working better.
however a couple of things. the N isnt overly reliably fast. it mostly fluctuates from 80-108mbps which is prob about right. but then other times its back to 54. My pings are good however. and my G devices still perform properly.
lastly i noticed on my N card the signal dorpped. in G only mode i was seeing 97-100% signal now in in G/N mixed mode it is 67%
so any thoughts to making it more reliably fast? and any theries on the signal drop??
thanks for all the help, i am currently much better off than i was before.
