Title: Windows PCs will not acquire IP Address but Apple Products do
Post by: Vince123 on August 29, 2010, 02:43:48 PM
Hi -

I recently upgraded my router to a D-Link DIR-655 and since then my two windows based machines can not acquire an IP address while my MacBook and two iPhones can.  I also added a second DIR-655 as a wired AP to expand my coverage.

One of the machines is running Windows XP Pro and the other Vista.  They will both connect to the network and they try to obtain a IP address but never do.  The Apple products have no issues.

From the router side I can watch them connect to the router but they never acquire an IP address.

Any and all help is appreciated.

You could try to set "Always broadcast" on the DIR (http://dlinkrouter/Basic/Network.shtml)

Otherwise, check your Windows IPv4 setup and make sure it is set to "automatic IP from DHCP".

Thanks. - The IPv4 is set as such and the router is in always broadcast mode.

Any other thoughts?

Finally figured it out - updated the drivers for the wireless adaptors (manually) and then the WPA security was supported.  Thanks for your help
