Title: what is the best way to add a user on a Vista machine?

It looks like I created the user and account for Vista machine my wife uses incorrectly. I have determined that I need to use a .bat file in the Startup directory to connect the machine during the boot process.  When I tried to connect the systems there issues and I want to start over and do it the way that works best.
Is it best to have the user name on the DNS-323 match the name of the computer or the name of the user?
If I should change to the name of the computer, is it best to remove the original user and all files associated with that name?

I am going to switch from Norton-360 backup to Second Copy in my hope is that rsync can be used to quickly update Volume_2 after data is written to Volume_1.  The Norton files are of little value.  What is important is to start properly the second time.

As always, I am open to suggestions.

My Windows accounts don't match the DNS-323, and I have no issue logging into it.  I see no reason to do any extra work, just browse to it and when you get the login password prompt, check the box that says save login information on this machine.

The differences we see must be due to different versions of Windows, our version is Vista Home Premium.  If I go through Control Panel-> Network and Sharing Center -> Map Network Drive, the screens insert the computer name if I use the default or the name of the network drive if I select the option to connect with a different name.

Figuring I had to play the game by the Microsoft rules, I removed the account for my wife on the DNS-323 and added a new user using the name of her PC.  The names created by the D-Link were strange but usable.  I could still connect to the volumes manually but not automatically at startup.

With the help of Google I found http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=59739 and when I add a .bat file to Startup, Vista will connect to the network drives during the boot process.

Now that the machine can connect to the DNS-323 at boot-time I thought someone on the list could tell me the Microsoft naming standards and I could clean up my my mess.
