Title: How do you measure files transfer speed between DNS-321 and your PC?
Post by: pwanghk on September 14, 2010, 02:48:03 PM
Greetings:

I would like to measure as accurately as possible the files transfer speed between my PC hooking up directly to the DNS-321.  Is timing a copy of 4GB of VOB files (VIDEO_TS folder) both way and divide it by the times it took a good way of measure or is there a more accurate method?

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Copy a large file, say 1gig, and time it.  Then copy a folder of smaller files the same size and time that.  You can see the maximum transfer rate and the typical for more normal sized files.

You could try 'NAS performance tester' if your PC runs a Windows OS.

I prefer the "real world" test over a benchmark, I find them to be more accurate. :)
