Title: Security How-To ?
Post by: Josh Lang on September 18, 2010, 02:27:17 PM
My teenage son wants to connect to the D-Link DIR-655 home wireless network via his Apple iTouch, but we want to limit his Internet access to the home desktop computer which has a content filter. He knows how to find the wireless password on our notebooks. So..

1.) Can an Internet filter be added to the wireless adapter itself (like K9, for instance)? I assume not.

2.) Can his iTouch IP address be blocked in d-link's setup environment? I think it can, but I can't find the menu to block it.

3.) Other security ideas?

Many thanks.

Inside "Advanced" tab you have "Access Control".
Quote
The Access Control section allows you to control access in and out of devices on your network. Use this feature as Parental Controls to only grant access to approved sites, limit web access based on time or dates, and/or block access from applications such as peer-to-peer utilities or games.

Is that you are looking for?

Also, go into network setting and reserve an IP for the itouch.

This way it can only receive the same IP from the router which makes it easier for you to block the itouch.

Have some educational talk to your son about snooping around on your laptops. And guard your debetcards and creditcards in your wallet.

Many thanks.
