Title: Forwarding Telnet for remote access to cisco access server
Post by: MurphysLaww on September 25, 2010, 10:00:59 PM
Howdy,

I'm at my wits end, and it's a bit embarrassing to be struggling to get this accomplished. I am trying to forward telnet, even simply and non-securely to a cisco 2509 access server so that I can access it from work.

I've tried both the Virtual Server and Port Forwarding, but with no luck. I can telnet to the ip of the device with no issues from a wireless laptop on the same network, but from a router at work, or from a simple telnet program on my Samsung android phone it's a no-go.

I want to get this running before I move on to getting it secured down with SSH or the like. I'm not ruling out that it's just an issue with my access server set-up, so I guess at some point I should try to put some thing other than that device at that IP and see if I can access it.

Any help will be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

I should probably mention:
The IP for the access server E/0 is set reserved in DHCP setup.
Running firmware 1.21, and I can access the router administration remotely from both a laptop at work and from my phone.

I've turned SPI off, and set TCP to endpoint independent.

What port were you trying to forward?

Telnet is normally port 23 with both TCP and UDP forwarded.
