Hi, someone tried 500gb Samsung HDD?

That should be fine, 500GB should be less than 9.7mm in height. Lower density platter for 750GB and 1TB are 12.5mm in height which shouldn't fit in the DIR-685.

I currently got a 1.8 Toshiba 80GB HDD with a 2.5 converter, for less energy and heat.

I do have knowledge in media streaming, to many devices. Though I don't use them any more....
