Title: Skype on iphone or Mac causes Wireless connection to drop
Post by: dutchguy on September 28, 2010, 03:50:08 PM
Hi,

I am using a Dir-655 A2 firmware 1.31EU
The router is in the same room which I am in - so a very strong signal (WiFi N but problem is also at G if I force the router to G).
My home is connected to a 120Mbps cable connection.

When using Skype with my iPhone 4 or my MacBook Pro I get random wireless drops every 5 to 20 minutes.

The symptoms are the same both with the iPhone and the Mac:
I talk for a while (great crisp voice quality) - then the call gets dropped after about 5 to 20 minutes.
I look at the signal of the WiFi on the Mac or the iPhone - and there is no WiFi on both of them - meaning that the wireless connection just dropped. After a little while - the wireless connection comes back to life and all is ok.

Any ideas?

Hi.  I'm having the same issue but it's not related to Skype, and Skype may not be your issue either.  My desktop that's connected to my router is a PC running Windows 7.  Whenever that computer is on, both my Macbook Pro and my iPhone have frequent wireless signal dropouts.  If I shut the PC down, I have no dropout issues.

Still looking for the solution to my issue.

It is only the wireless signal that is being dropped, and not the entire unit resetting?

Check the logs.

Hello,

Try this:

Advanced Firewall Settings

Uncheck SIP

Good luck

Hi,

I see two options on that page:
Enable SPI

and

SIP

Which one do you suggest I uncheck?

Uncheck SIP

I might be going out on a limb here, but I think he meant to uncheck SIP?   ;)

Fixed my issue.  I turned off (unchecked) IPV6 in my system network settings on my desktop PC running Windows 7 64bit OS and everything works great now.  Seems as though having IPV6 activated interferes with the router and causes intermittent dropouts.  I've got ver. 1.34 firmware on the router.

My Macbook and my iPhone now work fine without dropping wireless signal.  Everything is solid.

Seems like you got a point there... tried it (IPV6) and it helped.
How did you get this idea? any discussion about this somewhere else?
