Title: wired works but wireless is not even showing up
Post by: jjingaz on October 02, 2010, 09:47:18 PM
so i got this router less than a week ago.
it was working fine until my power went out today, it was under surge protector though. i have reset the router couple of times already.
wired works perfectly fine, just the wireless part...
i have win7 and the wireless is not even showing up on the network.
i have set the channel to 11, 20/40 mhz, WPA-personal and everything else is just default.
i have 1.21 version because i heard that one seemed to be the most stable one.
Please help me
thank you

Assuming you've checked router wirless setup and wireless in "enabled."  For now, also make the SSID visible.

Here's my two cents.  It is more likely the wireless NIC on your computer than the router.

Remove the wireless NIC drivers.

Reinstall the drivers from scratch, if you have a d-link NIC, do NOT install the connection manager.
Configure your wireless connection using Microsoft O/S.

Do not use channel 11.  It is the most likely to have others using it as it is a common factory default.  Same with channel 6.  Try other channels.

If you still have difficulties, it would be recommended that you tell the forum members the make and model of your wireless NIC and any related contents of the router log.

I disagree with your insisting on using firmware 1.21, however, that is not related to your problem.

If you log-in to your modem configuration page (192.168.0.1) and go to Status/Logs, what do you see in the "wireless lan" section?

my wireless NIC is Atheros AR9285
on the log for wireless, it is empty. there is nothing there
both of my laptops can not find the wireless network for dlink
we can find others around us, just not the dlink router that we have.

I have same issue.  Win7 / Asus N61J laptop w Athros 9285 wirelss and 8131 card.
Had the DL655 since June with no issues.  2 weeks ago, the wireless stopped working.
Login to Router and see that :  Device Info / Status / Wireless Lan...... wireless radio: Init failed.
My network does not show up in network connections.  My neighbor does (200ft away) and I can connect to him.  Currently logged in with wired connection that works fine.
If I turn off power to router for 1hr or so and then repower, the wireless will show up strong and i can connect thru wireless, but fails soon after (10 minutes).
I have tried changing channels and various things, with no success.
My other computer connects directly to cable modem without any issues, as well as thru wired switch on the DL655.
Believe it is DOA.

New info leads me to now believe you're going to have to RMA your unit.

Look here:

Doing a web search thusly:  "d-link" wireless init faulure

brought up a wealth of informaton and other ideas...however, RMA sounds good to me.
