Title: Two DNS323 on one network?
Post by: SmallTownUSA on October 03, 2010, 06:41:31 AM
Hi All: I already have one DNS-323 (with two-1TB drives running RAID1) on my network. I want to add additional storage. Can I add another DNS-323 with two-2TB drives to this network or do I have to go to the 4-bay enclosure?

Tkx,
Harold

I have three NAS units on my network, you can have as many as you like.  I have a Synology DS209, the DNS-323, and a DNS-321.

There is no issue, they're just like any other TCP/IP connected device.

As mentioned, there are no issues. It is the same as running multiple computers, network printers, etc. It just needs an available ip address. I too have more than one on my home network.

I'd suggest you perhaps consider something like the Synology DS210j if you want more performance for not much more money. :)

Just turn off all DHCP servers except one (e.g. the one of your router).
There's nothing else to take care of.

That of course depends on your network configuration and if you use DHCP at all.

Thanks for the input. Do you know if there is user access to the torrent program in the DS210j? I would like to change some of the settings. Access to the firmware on the DNS323 is not allowed.

What do you mean "user access"?  There is a capability to load 3rd party extensions built-in to the Synology firmware, but I don't use P2P, so I can't say how well the internal or any external applications work in that regard.

Sorry, should have been more specific. I want to specifiy a proxy server on the torrent application. Is this possible?

Well, you can add one, but there doesn't seem to be any way to enter a password.  OTOH, you could install something like Transmission which folks also install on the DNS-323.
