Hi! I'm looking for a small and free backup software.
I want to manually start it to copy a folder on my DNS-323, but only the files that were modified.
What can I use?
Thank you.

I highly recommend the free version of SyncBack. This is a great software product that has more customization than you'll ever need. http://www.2brightsparks.com/freeware/index.html (http://www.2brightsparks.com/freeware/index.html)
You can schedule multiple backup profiles across your network, copy individual or nested folders, and setup very complex rules. Addressing the requirements you stated: the application can be used to setup a profile that only copies files/folders based on detected changes to the file size and/or modification date.

You can't get much smaller and free(er) than robocopy. It's a command line utility for Windows XP and above and is already installed in Vista and above. Look at the MIR mirror option.

SyncToy is another free package from Microsoft, it uses the GUI instead of the command line. Robocopy is more flexible, but SyncToy is easier to use. :)

There is a GUI for robocopy here http://www.fr-an.de/ (http://www.fr-an.de/)

Well, it's a pretty lame GUI. :)

You know any better one ?
Funny enough many things are build on user request (developer is open to suggestions). So might be lame in your eyes but many others ..........

SyncToy and robocopy are two different things and work in very different ways. One uses Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 and uses some kind of database. The other (robocopy) doesnt. I've tried both and just prefer the simplicity of robocopy. No installations, databases, files required in source/destination directories etc.

I've used both as well, they each have their uses.
