Title: DIR 6.55 2.00NA - Access Control not working properly.
Post by: mstexas on October 07, 2010, 07:25:43 AM
On the new DIR-655 with firmware 2.00NA the Access Control is not working properly. It will not let you disable Internet access using the "all other machines"  to only machines that don't have a specific policy set. In the past I could set certain IP addresses to have internet access using a specific policy and then make another policy using the "all other machines" setting and it would disable all IP addresses except those that had a specific policy turning it on. But it does not work corredctly on firmware 2.00NA. Using the "all other machines" turns it off on all IP addresses including the ones that have specific policies allowing internet access. I have tried this on two new DIR-655 units and both do the same wrong thing.

Is there a DLink representative monitoring these forums and are you aware of this? When can we expect a firmware upgrade to fix the problem?

For the record, I have installed and supported DIR-655 from version 1.20 and have over 50 in use. This is the first time I have had a problem in this area. So I don't think it is pilot error...but I could be wrong.

Hi mstexas,

What is the Hardware Revision of your Router in question? You mentioned New and Old in the post.

The hardware version is "B1".

I continue to have this problem on all new DIR-655 units with ver 2.00NA firmware. I installed another new one today and the problem is the same. Does anybody else use the "access" feature with firmware 2.00?

I have a DIR-655 A2 with new 1.34 firmware, and am having the exact same issue (that I just posted about separately).  I noticed that if I enable SecureSpot, the Access Control works properly with the web site filters.  I don't want SecureSpot, but it works as a temporary work-around.

Have you found any other resolution to the problem?

Hello,
I would like to setup access control on an Xbox only to limit play times.  Is there an quick method for this and is that the same problem being discussed here?
I only want to turn off usage of the Xbox from like 1:00 am to morning.
Thanks

Well, I was looking for an answer other than the one you gave.

I have a DIR- 655 Firmware version 2.00NA and hw ver. B1 as well. When I enable logging, the network becomes really slow, almost unusable and sometimes the router reboots itself.

I'm assuming that logging may be the issue, but syslog doesn't seem to work redirecting the events to a syslog server on the LAN.

I've noticed that some features stress the router and either makes the network unbearable slow or causes reboots.

I'd greatly appreciate any information or workaround besides "disabling" such feature.

I have a client that cannot stay connected to the internet for more than 5-15 minutes. I have logging enabled as well as QOS and there is never any packet loss...just a reboot. Maybe using these features is causing the DIR-655 to reboot. I have now turned these features off and will see how that goes. I will post back in a few hours.

I sure wish I could go back to Firmware version 1.21. I never had any problems. I might have to switch routers. I have just loved the DIR-655 because of all the control I had. But now it seems like DLink does not care. :(
