So i read the sticky (nice guide btw) And i just wanted to post to make sure i understand everything correct.
To get our 2 xboxs to properly link up with xbox live on open NATs i basically need to set a static ip for each xbox and put those IPS in the QOS?
I had a Lynksys BERS41 (sp?) and tried all the port forwarding and UPnP etc and could not get our Xboxs to work when playing COD. I figured it was time for an upgrade and just bought the 4500.
My setup is
Cox internet
Motorola router (not sure what type im at work)
to
4500 (going to be)
to
Pc, Xbox1, Xbox2 (all hard wired)
-
Yes, use the Gamefuel rules for adding the information for the 2 xboxes. It works well..Let us know if you have questions or need help
-
Well after only only 20 mins of tinkering with it and following the guide we were back online playing COD and kicking some faces in. Gotta say i was a little worried after reading reviews about this router but everything is working so far "knock on wood"
Thanks for the help!
-
Good to hear that your online. See in Black OPS? Have to ready everything you see with a grain of salt too.
-
1. Well look who is Level 8. Whooo hoo.
2. Yea, I don't get that either. I have to think a good portion of it it human error. Not to say the people making the error didn't know what they were doing, its just that they provided more capability then documentation, so there was alot of trial and error bound to take place.
-
Wow, didn't even notice until you said something. Kewl beans. ::)
-
Well I spoke a little too soon.
When i tried to get on the next day it wouldn't pick up my xbox. But my buddy was online playing. After i restart the router and modem it works. But then the next day i have to restart again.
Any ideas?
-
What firmware version is currently loaded? Your only using the Gamefuel rule and not the Gaming rule right? I presume your on a wired connection to the Xbox?
-
Yea, there was someone else who had a simular problem on these forums. It was with 2 xboxes though. He would have to power cycle or run the Xbox network test . Do you remeber the case I am talking about Furry?
-
Kinda, Maybe, Sorta...Hmmm...I think so...trying to find that post...oy vay. Will have to do some searching. :P
This one? http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=14226.0 (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=14226.0)
Reading it reminds me...Have you added the Primary and 2ndary DNS IP addresses from the Status/DeviceInfo/Wan section to the Basic/Internal/manual/DHCP Internet Connect Type section? Sometimes this is not automatically filled it by the router and needs to be added.
-
I just checked and they are added in there like you said. Not sure where else to go from here. Thank you for your help so far! It's probably one stupid little thing i've missed that's causing the issue.
Should my internet be set to dynamic IP or static? It's currently on Dynamic.
-
Should be Dynamic unless your ISP has you on a Static WAN IP address and in that case I wouldn't think so unless ur paying for a static IP.
Whats the firmware currently loaded on the 4500 router?
Is everything all hard wired to the back of the 4500 LAN ports or do you have a switch in the mix?
I would run thru all the gamefuel settings again and make sure you haven't typed an incorrect number or something. Lets have you check the protocol ports for both and set them both to: 3074 / 3074. Make sure everything else is correct in gamefuel.
Is Dynamic Defragmentation enabled or disabled? I should be disabled.
Is DNS Relay enabled or disabled? It should be enabled.
Might have you send me your config file from the 4500 so I can take a look at it...Let me know about the questions i've asked.
-
I believe it's 1.21NA. (im currently at work)
I'll double check the gamefuel settings when i get home tonight.
Dynamic Defrag is off
DNS relay is enabled
I can send you the config file later tonight.
How do you update the firmware on a router?
My setup is
Cox internet
Motorola router (I think it's a SB510)
to
4500
to
Pc, Xbox1, Xbox2 (all hard wired)
-
Ok, This could be the issue. v1.21 was known for disconnects and hangs on the router. When you get home verify this version for me then save off your current configuration to file. Lets verify your version first before updating. If this is the case then I'll help you walk you thru an update. There are preferred steps for updating.
Let us know.

I'm about 99.99% positive it said version 1.21NA. I'll double check and re post tonight when i get home.
-
Ya, and if so, then I'm pretty sure your problem could be the FW.
-
Yea it's 1.21.
Yesterday i had the day off. I was sitting there enjoying Fable III when i noticed my modem reset on it's own. All the lights turned off then came back on 1 by 1 and i got d/c from xbox live. Is it normal for modems to do that? There was no power surge or anything.
-
Modem, you mean the ISP internet modem or the 4500 router? If it was the ISP Internet modem then not often should it auto reset. ISP do occasionally update the modems online with there services however only in blue moon, say once or twice a year maybe. If your seeing the Internet modem reset on it's own then I would presume there is an issue with it and I would be calling your ISP about it soon. Is this modem the one they gave you or did you by your own. I recommend buying your own modem.
If your meaning the 4500 router, this should never auto reset at all, only my manual human ways does this device reset. Let me know which unit your seeing reset by itself. I want to be sure here before we go farther. I seems that if its the cable modem auto resetting then the router is only doing it's job and reporting it and might look like it's the cause. Just hope to get it figured out. I think you'll enjoy the router once you get a stable connection to the ISP. ::)
-
Yup, in the business they call that a T4. Firmware upgrades are rarly pushed, and instead are just set to update on next boot. Call your ISP and have them look at your signal levels. Tell them your having a intermident issue which is causing a sync problem with your router. If they give you any problems reply here and I can show you how to get the logs from your modem to proof it. It won't be anything they can fix over the phone, unless they help you remove a splitter or turn on a amp or something, so will probably require a tech. Good luck. Who is your ISP BTW?
-
Yea it was the modem (im not that much of a lamen haha)
My provider is cox. The modem they gave me is the SB5105u (soemthing like that can't remember exactly off the top of my head)
is it possible to buy my own modem since im using cox? The SB6121 looks pretty nice.
I'm not sure if it restarts like that a lot. I just happened to have the day off and noticed it that afternoon.
-
Ya you can buy your own. Most ISPs don't mind as long as they support it under there network. I had to wait for my ISP to support the SB 6120. Just a couple most months ago they did so I finally got one and it's online. Worst thing that could happen is that you would have to return the SB6120 for a refund. Let us know what happens

New to the forum but not to computers and the internet gaming community. Just an FYI. You need to make sure that your cable modem or whatever you use to link to the internet is XBOX 360 compatible. The UBEE cable transceivers (modem) are usually not compatible when using charter as you ISP. Otherwise your NAT will be open on one machine and either strict or moderate on the other. You can resolve this sometimes using DMZ and port forwarding and using a static IP address or Dynamic with a reservation on your router.
Great article here

Where did you get this info? Not saying your wrong, just asking your source. By Ubee do you mean the company previously known as Ambit? To my knowledge, all DHCP using modems are compatible with all game consoles, but if you know otherwise, please educate me.
-
Also should you use DMZ for connecting you loose the features of what routers offer such as QoS and Prioritizing, Port Forwarding and such.
-
Well everything seems to be working now (except my stupid modem) but i'll contact cox about that or buy my own.
I'm just glad i got it up and running before blackops comes out! Thanks for all your help you guys saved me a lot of time and headache.
If anyone plays on xbox add me MickBaztard.
-
Kewl, hope the new modem will fix it and everything will work great for ya. You'll enjoy the performance of the 4500 once it gets a good signal from the modem. LOL. I'll add ya to XBL. Look for me. Can't miss me.
-
Yea, I can tell you now if Cox is your ISP, its just as compatible with 360 as any other modem. The confusion may arrive from Ubee being the new name for Ambit. So if your looking for a list of compatible modems, it might not say Ubee, because up to a week or two ago, Ubee didn't exsist.

@Furry,
is it possible to hook up multiple xbox's (offline) to a router and play local deathamtch? Me and some buddies are thinking about doing that tonight when black ops is released. I'm just wondering if it's possible.
-
Ya use system link in the game. I believe that game will do that, most games have the feature. Just not sure what kind of games options you get with system link. Obviously you wont get some online matches I'm sure. Not sure about Deathmatch. In stead of going online with XBL, look for System Link. I know the Halo games do. All you need to do is connect up to the same ports on the back of the 4500 or you don't even need the router, you can get you a cheep 4 or 8 port 100 or Gb switch and use that. Either way will work. Let us know what you find out.
-
You can, i looked at the box and was stoked to see that it has system link 2-18 players. 18 seems kind of add to me i figured it would be 16 (4 xboxs) then again it was 1230 at night and i was half asleep.
I put about 5 hours of multiplayer in last nightt with some friends. The game seems a lot more balanced than the previous ones. Also the levels are pretty sweet and i like the purchase system, contract sytem etc. I miss not getting the titles though that was always fun seeing a new title and emblem pop up after a match.

I loaded mine and just walked around one map and set my controller controls. Ya looks very nice. I'm headed to play for a bit before work. See you online man.
