Title: Blocking China
Post by: hellcat on October 21, 2010, 11:50:52 AM
No I'm not from the Chinese government, and I dont want to save a few quid by using Dlink routers to firewall outbound traffic...

I host a little forum and want to reduce the number of chinese origin spam bots. I have IP rages but from what I can see you can only assign 8 ranges to one rule, and only assign 1 rule to a virtual server? Am I doing it right? Be a shame if I am.

Oh and hello everyone. :)

Hi there,
You're right, that is the router's limitation. It's a home router, for more elaborate rules you would have to go PRO. That said, there's nowhere enough rules to block them all.

You can always reserve posting for registered members (no anonymous posting)

Or set up firewall on the box running the forum itself. If you're on linux I recommend CSF. It has blocking rule based on country built in.
