Title: connected via VPN, cannot mount drives
Post by: teamrolex on October 27, 2010, 09:56:48 PM
Hi all,

At home
======
Home PC is XP pro

In office
======
(1) office pc is Win 7 Ultimate <- this PC is the VPN server
This pc is connected to router

(2) DNS is connected to router as well

** note all PCs and Macs (SL) in office can see and mount drives and printer connected to 323 so everything is ok.

Problem is when I login from home to office (win 7 machine) via VPN, I can ping to the 323 from home and even see the config/login page of the 323. So I guess that I have successfully joint the office network.
But I cannot mount drives of the 323, neither can I print to the printer on the 323.

Please note that the Win 7 machine (acting as the vpn server in the office) was an XP pro before and I was able to login and mount drives and print to the printer connected to the 323.

I wonder if there is some sharing policy within win 7 that I have to set or change some setting on the 323 in order to make it work again.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

anybody can help ?
I was using win xp as the VPN server and that was when everything worked.
Now using Win7 Ultimate (with windows firewall off - domain, public and private) but still cannot mount shares from home.

Thanks in advance for any help.

ok, some good results.
I am able to map network drives using address like \\192.168.1.102\drive

but not able to mount using \\dns-323\drive

so I suppose a dns/nameserver issue ?

As I mentioned above I had no problem when my vpn server in the office was XP Pro.
But I changed it to a win 7 ultimate machine when the xp pro died.

Thanks.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your reply.
I am really not so technical as far as network setup is concerned.

This afternoon I looked in many forums and faq re this issue, however I still cannot get this to work.

After login to my windows7 vpn at the office (using xp pro at home), I just cannot type the \\nameserver\

I have to  use \\ipaddress\ instead.

Can you give me some tips ? or suggestions ?

Thanks again in advance.
