I recently installed the desktop widget for this router and while it's nice, it doesnt really provide enough information... most importantly The bandwidth display:
- while this is nice, it doesnt clearly say if it's downtsream/upstream, and i think this is very important..
- it doesnt show w/c client is consuming w/c traffic.. i would like to see w/c client is eating howmuch of the bandwidth..
So is there a better desktop application for this?
-
wow, didn't know there was such a thing, this on there web site? Been looking for it. I see there is a browser toolbar.
-
No the widget is powered by yahoo and it is included on the DGL 4500 set up disk. I found it to be pretty useless. They do in fact have an updated version if you care to look for it over at the widget section of yahoo. Enjoy!.
EDIT:
I will provide a link to those who wish to use the widget. I suggest you download the newer one V2.0.

Thanks Lookin, Ya I refreshed my broswer on DLinks site and finally showed information about it. They say you have to up date the router then download the widget however still no link that I found to it. Yours is the 1st. Thanks.

if there's a document on how to customize this widget, or interface w/ the router so i can make my own program for this, that would be awesome :(
-
Hmm, +1. That would be cool. Overkill and I would probably never use it..but if nothing else it would look cool on my desktop. Heh. I will browse around. Probably something opensource out there that works with everything. Internet rule 24, anything that can be done, Penguins can do better. :-)

Theres a DGL-4500 windows Gadget on their site for Gadgets. Its all JS and CSS in the files.
So whats this toolbar?
-
the tool bar is the browser tool bar that you can put in a browser, just adds places to go and search, nothing great. My gadget keeps crashing. Wonder if it's 7x64. :-\
-
When I was running 7x64, I didnt have any issues with it.
However, since I am running XP, I can't see the info unless I go over to the router itself and use the OLED.
Annoying.
I extracted the files from the Gadget. Looks like all it does is parse the various XML files to get the data.
http://192.168.0.1/router_info.xml?section=system_info
http://192.168.0.1/router_info.xml?section=wan_stats
http://192.168.0.1/router_info.xml?section=lan_stats
and so on.
I wouldnt mind just running it via a web-page

No there is no document for you to customize the widget, but you can in fact try to create your own, not that it matters because the yahoo one already provides basic information about the router.
