Title: Upgrading NAS 323 capacity

I tried doing all the right things:
I checked the "compatible drives" for the largest size drives.  Decided on @TB WD EADS drives
Removed my 750 GB WD drives from NAS (was Raid-1)and replaced with new drives
Plugged 750 GB into extrnal drive case.

Windows 7 does not recognize the drive. I click on manage, and get the option to reformat.  I don't want to reformat.

It was my impression that when I am in Raid-1 both drives have all the data.  How can I see the data on each drive?  It seems they only see the data from the NAS...

The drives from the NAS have three partitions: one Linux swap and two Linux ext2 (or ext3) partitions. The largest partition is the one with all your data. Since the filesystem is ext2 (or ext3) which Windows cannot handle out of the box, you will need extra software to access the ext2/3 partition from a Windows system.

Try Ext2Fsd http://www.ext2fsd.com/ (http://www.ext2fsd.com/) on the Windows system, reads my DNS-323 disks fine.

Thanks a lot.  That worked.  I don't know how or why, but it did :)

The why is simple. Windows can't read the Linux EXT2/3 filesystem created and used by the NAS. Windows can only work with FAT and NTFS in the main. Most of these consumer electronic devices run a version of Linux. It's free, secure, open source, lightweight and perfect for the job.
