Title: Failed configuration authentication
Post by: lip on November 09, 2010, 03:39:13 AM
I've been getting all my wireless connections (wired as well I guess) disconnected repeatedly in the past few months since I changed my network at home and upgraded the dlink 655 firmware to 1.33
I changed my network so that now I have the dsl modem hooked up to the dir655 wired.  I have wireless shutoff on the 655 and have it wired to a netgear which acts as an access point.  I hope that is clear....
Since doing this, I get random losses of internet access...so I looked at the log and see the below...

I have turned off securespot and also turned off dns relay as some others have suggested, to no avail...

HELP!!!!!

Thanks.
LIP

Hi Lip,

What Software Firewall is being employed? Post the Incoming Events relating to Home Network from the Firewall.

I'm only using Microsoft Security Essentials and Defender...I'm not even sure it's possible to get a log from them...?

Hi lip,

Why would you turn off the D-Link Router's Wireless portion and use NetGear Wireless? I would remove the NetGear and turn on the D-Link Wireless portion and plug everything into the D-Link and see what happens? Try going back to your old Network and see what happens.

Thanks for responding!   :)

To be frank, the netgear unit seems to perform far better...basically I was using that for something else before and then I decided to integrate it into my home office network...
I have my DSL modem(it has wireless as well but I turned it off), connected to the dir-655(wireless turned off as well) which acts as a router only, then this is in turn connected with ethernet to the netgear unit which is installed in the middle level of my house (wireless on) so that I get a signal throughout the house...I live in a 5 level house and the main computer is in the basement so if I just have the wireless in the basement, it doesn't go much farther than the basement...

I hope that makes sense.

I can try switching the d-link and netgear around but the netgear has both frequencies and is generally better wireless so it would be a negative thing to go in that direction(then again, right now it's just not working right).  However, the problem only seemed to occur after I upgraded the dir-655 firmware.

Hi lip,

I never upgraded my firmware past 1.21 and it is working just fine. Go back to Firmware 1.21. There is a way to do so documented by someone else on this forum.

Thanks mate!!!!!
This sorted my problem out...I can't believe I wasted so much time fooling around with settings and it was just poor firmware by dlink...
