I have several questions about my d-link router dir-655.
1. I have a desktop pc that has an asus wireless n pci adapter installed inside my computer and an msi u230 netbook. Whenever I set the channel width to 20/40 on my d-link home page the connection that i get on my desktop pc and netbook is only 150 mbps. If the channel width is set to 20 I get a connection of 65 mbps. I used to have a linksys wrt 150n router and my linksys wireless n adapter would get a connection of 300 mbps on my old pc. In order for me to get a connection of 300 mbps. Do I need to have a dlink pci adapter installed on my desktop pc as well?
2. My other question is about skype. Whenever I connect to skype I always lose connection. Do I need to configure some settings on my router's home page. If I need to do some configuration? How do I do I configure my router?

1. 300 Mbps connection requirements! Please read! (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=616.0)
2. Port Forwarding Skype on the Dlink DIR-655 (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DIR-655/Skype.htm)

how do i do that sir? i have two computers using skype.
-
It's asking me to reboot my router. Would rebooting reset my router settings
-
It shouldn't reset anything, but there is always a slight chance that it does.
-
No, i have never encountered a reboot erasing my settings. Only if you use the 'hard reset' (pin at the back) you will loose everything. So just use the 'reboot' button in the firmware setup.

I just have a question on port forwarding sir. In the ports to open I have to tcp and udp. Someone told me to type 5060 and 5061. Do I type 5060 on the tcp and 5061 on the udp? Skype is not listed on the Application name? Is that Ok? I'll just give it a name? What IP Address do I need to use? Do I use the router IP address?

Scroll through the page for easy setup instructions.

I read the instructions for port forwarding. It says there that you need to have a static ip address. Is that really needed?
-
Static in the router.
Go into Setting > Network Setting
Reserve the IP that the router is giving you now and you will have a static IP as the router will always give you the same IP.
When they say static for port forwarding and you are using a router it is the LAN IP you need static not WAN.
