Title: Using DIR 615 router instead of wireless in VMDG280 hub! Help
Post by: AndyH_ on November 23, 2010, 10:17:19 AM
Ok due to the new Virgin media hub being useless, Call of duty being unplayable over wireless, I have been advised to disable the wireless on it (so its just a sort of stand alone modem) and plug my old router into the modem and use that for my wireless network.

This is my setup:
Internet>>>Virgin media hub(wireless disabled)>>>DIR-615(ethernet lan port to lan port)>>>Wireless laptop/PS3's etc

Ok where do I start
The VM hub is default 192.168.0.1
I assigned the address 192.168.0.2 to the DIR615 and put this in DMZ.
I have turned off SPI (firewall) in the VM gateway.
I assigned everything that connects via dlink wireless network a static IP starting from 192.168.0.3

I cant seem to login to the dlink router, I want to do this to try and optimise the wireless settings i.e wireless channel etc to try and improve the current lag issues im experiencing on my PS3 (a wired PS3 works ok).

If I use 192..01 I go into the Virgin media hub gateway, so I thought lets try 192..02 to get into the dlink..all that happens is that it times out.

Ive then tried using an ethernet cable to connect from the dlink lan port to a laptop and still cant access the router login page.

can you connect to the Dlink login page if you uuplug the d-link from the modem?

If you can i would recommend that the IP settings used by the dlink is different, use 192.168.1.x instead.
