Title: Orientation of the 3 antennae
Post by: icemankent on November 24, 2010, 08:09:22 PM
Is there any rule of thumb - or even any documented recommendation regarding how the 3 antennae are supposed to be set up ?

What is the optimal orientation of them, (and also "why") ?

Lastly, is this info posted anywhere with explanations ?

Thanks.

Thanks, but it was pretty general.

I thought that someone might have had a document that displays how we should be pointing the 3 antennas based on where the router with respect to where the pc's are.

Too bad D-Link leaves this info out - since these antennas are omnidirectional, and can be positioned in many different angles - plus there are 3 of them - so I would have figured that their placement and angles would be important enough to provide guidance to the customer who uses it.

DLink and other OEM Mfrs don't give much information regarding. Again, as stated, Omni-directional is just that. Really is not dependent upon a certain angle or position of the antenna. Now relation to the router placement to the PCs is obviously as you would want a central placement of the router in a building so that the broadcasting signals emanating from the router can reach most PCs with in the range of the 360 degree signal path.

Now if the antenna and signal were in a directional setup, yes, angle and positioning of the antenna would be critical for reception, such as Microwave and Satellite and some analog communication.

Basically, just aim the antenna tips upwards from the router if you have it siting flat on its feet. If you have it on the vertical stand then move them so that they are pointed upwards as best you can.

FYI, the best signal mode to use is G mode only at 2.4Ghz if you don't have any N supported devices.

Ok, I just found this - which has been somewhat helpful.

Just click in the radio button and it will bring up a few diagrams of antanna placement.

Just so you know, it doesn't matter ALMOST at all. I bet you could even disconnect one of those antenna and not see the signal decrease. Think of it this way...if you turn your cell phone upside down, do you get more or less signal?

Hey they turn my upside down and I can get better signal. LOL. Man they'll let anyone on this board.  ::)
