Title: Two 655 one 1522 need help setting up.
Post by: Perpetual on November 27, 2010, 07:39:38 PM
So I have a perfectly working DIR 655 (A3 1.34NA) and DAP 1522 setup.  I want to wire in another 655 to the 1522 to provide greater wireless coverage.

Current setup:
[Cable Modem]<-ethernet->[DIR-655]<-802.11n->[DAP-1522]

I would like to have:
[Cable Modem]<-ethernet->[DIR-655]<-802.11n->[DAP-1522]<-ethernet->[DIR-655]

Currently the 655 provides wired and wireless service flawlessly. :)
The 1522 provides wired flawlessly to laptop and xbox and the other 655... However, the 2nd 655 is not providing wireless service. I mean, it broadcasts, but if I wirelessly connect to that router I have no net access.

1st 655 is set at 192.168.0.1 with DHCP enabled (.101-.189)and QOS enabled.
The 1522 I setup with WPS (amazingly easy setup).
The 2nd 655 is set at 192.168.0.101 with DHCP disabled and QOS disabled (should this be in the DHCP range or out of it?).

Um, any tips ?

So, I got it working!

The router is set to 192.168.0.1 broadcasting n & g
The bridge is set at 192.168.0.50 and was setup with WPS
the 2nd 655 is set at 192.168.0.6 broadcasting n & g with the same ssid and password as the 1st 655. Dhcp and qos turned off on the 2nd 655.
The 2nd 655 has Ethernet going from LAN to the bridges LAN.

I don't know if it matters, but the 2nd 655 has a dhcp reservation at 192.168.0.101 which is the start of my dhcp range. It's working so I'm not changing it.

I know it's working because I can check the status page at the 2nd 655 and see the devices connected to it.

Why doesn't dlink have instructions for this anywhere? Why did I have to use trial and error? Did I miss something?

The don't suggest using 2 routers in the same configuration as you can run into NAT issues.
