Title: Why doesn't the router display static IPs?
Post by: jrouss on April 25, 2008, 03:54:41 AM: Is there anyway to get this router to show IPs that are assigned by a DHCP server? When I view attched devices it shows none, this seems odd to me that it does not show the attched devices.

Post by: davevt31 on April 25, 2008, 07:11:33 AM: You topic question and message question don't match up. All the addresses handed out by DHCP can be seen at the bottom of the Status tab, Device info page.

As for static addresses if the router didn't hand out the address to a machine then it wouldn't know about it being out there. It doesn't automatically search out all machines on a network, it just supplies IP addresses to those that request one.

But yes, it would be nice if the router status page DID show all devices connected at any given moment whether DHCP or Static IP assigned.... Many other routers have this menu item....

Any chance this could show up in later firmware?

Post by: tony4d on June 01, 2008, 08:20:57 PM: I think you guys are looking for an "ARP Table" view. Every switch stores all mac <-> ip relations in a table, so that traffic can be controlled efficiently. If dlink could simply show everything in the switch's arp table in the status view that'd be a nice touch.

Keep in mind, with this solution, a device would have to communicate with the switch at least once to register in the arp table.

Not to mention that you are referring to a HOME CLASS device, not a high end business class router.
