Title: Losing Internet connection
Post by: pectin232 on April 28, 2008, 07:38:12 AM
When set to auto I am getting losing connection but when set to 1000 or 100 it is more better/ stable. When the PS3 connects it sometime loses connection. What can I do to improve Wifi stability?

What firmware? What ISP? What modem? Are you losing Internet connection (WAN port to cloud) or WIFI connection (Client radio to AP radio)?

I just updated to 1.11, ISP is comcast 6 or 8mbps, Modem they gave to use was an ARRIS. It works fine.. but ocassionally I get disconnected and have to reboot the DIR655. Problem is I cannot view other PCs from Vista even though I see the icons. Also HP 3600Network printer cannot be setup even though it is directly connected [wired] to the DIR655 router.

So I am reading you have a WAN issue.
LAN computer connectivity to the router is OK. WAN port connectivity to the modem or internet occasionally drops and is repaired by a router reboot.

IF the WAN port speed is set to Auto please change it to 100

under Advanced>Advanced Networks (last choice)>WAN Port Speed

Also let us know the model number of the ARRIS modem if you can get it.

Sure I will. Is there a way for me to set the printer then. I changed it to 100 now and it is working fine at least for "now". How do I set the printer then. Just 1 week ago lets say if I want to set my printer in XP or Vista.. I click on Add Network/ Bluetooth Printer... and it will show something like 196.168.xxx.xxxx and HP 3600n Printer. Now when I do so.. nothing comes out when I click on add Raw.. it does not appear. I think there is nothing to do with the Modem is there?

Updated: Model is: TM402P/110 NA-1

You are correct. The local printing problem has nothing to do with your modem and little to do with your router. The only effect your router will have on the printing is the IP scheme of your network.

If you have the default setting of LAN Address and DHCP server, then you are now using a different Network ID than with your previous router. Is your HP network printer getting IP via DHCP or is it static? Is it in the new Network range or is it still on your previous router IP scheme?

If the printer is in the same Network as the client PC then the problem is with the PC settings.
