Title: Disable auto connect and AP problems
Post by: recap on December 18, 2010, 11:17:25 PM
Good day peeps.

I've gotten a dir-600 and have been trying to configure it so that it won't auto connect to the internet. Some people in my network prefers to manually connect to the internet from their pppoe dial-up on their pc. i've tried changing it to static or dynamic ip in the lan config, but everyone connected to the router from lan couldnt dial out as well. changing it to ap allowed everyone (including wireless) solved the problem. but doing so, i am not able to access the router. the default ip's dont work, nor could i find the ip of the router on the network.

so what i want to do is reset it to factory settings and just use it as a hub/switch w/ wireless. dont want to use it to connect to the net automatically.

you may want to get into a AP device or DAP DLink model.

These routers are designed to automatically connect or gain access to the internet thats provided by the ISP modem or connection. There is a PPPoE option and there is a On Demand option under this that might be of some use. Not sure. Generally these routers are ALWAYS On and thats how they are designed to be used.
