Title: Having Multiple g and n Connections
Post by: StevenSSX on December 19, 2010, 06:29:25 PM
I'm not too tech savvy so bear with me here:

I have a laptop connected with an Xtreme N Dual Band adapter to a DIR-665 router. It's running in 5G Mode, set to 802.11n only on auto 20/40MHz.

My other laptop that only connects to wireless g can't connect to this router even though it says it is backwards compatible. The only way I can connect it is if I set my router to 2.4G Mode (as the 5G Mode only allows a/n connections). But connecting it in 2.4G mode would mean I wouldn't get the maximum speed possible on my n connection.

Is there a way to simultaneously connect my wireless g laptop to 2.4G Mode and my wireless n laptop to 5G Mode? Or is there a way to connect my wireless g laptop to 5G mode? I don't want to sacrifice speed for the sake of compatibility here. Any help is appreciated.

The 665 doesn't do simultaneous 2.4 and 5, it only does one or the other.  If you want the G's to connect you will have to run in 2.4 mode.
