Post by: 5thumbs on December 19, 2010, 06:40:32 PM
I have a DIR 655 running v 1.04 firmware.  This device feeds my IPad but I have been experiencing slow Internet since upgrade the IPad software last week. My router firmware version 1.04.  What is the best firmware for this device and any tips on locating / installing the firmware?

I have the DAP-1160 and my laptop works just fine with it, but when i try to connect my ipad it keeps saying that i have the wrong password. Could it be that i need a different password when connecting with my ipad? Without the DAP i could connect to the internet without a problem...

SPI and SIP are two totally different things, make sure you are unchecking the right one.

SPI is Stateful Packet Inspection.  This is what helps to keep unwanted Internet Packets out of your systems.  The router checks the incoming packets to be sure that they were actually requested by  a system that is in the network and blocks those that weren't.

Having SIP enabled (or checked) can affect things like Vonage and other VoIP softwares....  For me I had issues sending & receiving FAXes until I unchecked the SIP box....  Because the router was blocking FAX-related data packets going into my vonage adapter that is behind my 655....  Soon as I unchecked SIP, saved and rebooted the 655....I could FAX no problems.

As others have said, you def want SPI enabled in the firewall settings of the setups.
