Title: DIR-615 hw:B2 fw:2.24 -- Wireless reliablity
Post by: smlunatick on June 16, 2008, 06:31:03 AM
I have been working on replacing my older Super G (108.0Mbps 11g) wireless network with a DIR-615 (hw: B2 fw: 2.24_ router and a DWL-130 (Drv ver: 1.30) adapter.  I have managed to get the 11ng signals to be at their max speeds (300.0 Mbps) but the adapter connections are never reliable.  I have posted a query in the DWl-130 section:

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=1831.0

but never got a successfully recommendation.

I am at my wits end!  I do not know why this new 11n set ups cause a constant "wireless" network reset / reconnect with the DWL-130 (and other makers.)  All wired connections work correctly constantly so it seems that the router is reset the wireless radio.

Symptoms of the wireless network problems:

DWL-130    -- Trouble to connect to wireless signals (limited or no connection)
-- Gets IP address from router but lets no network / Internet access
                 -- A "reconnect" tooltip notice pop-up every 5 minutes
-- All the above was the same for either the D-Link Connection Manager or
Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC)

Other wireless 11n adapter:

--  With either the manufacturer's connection manager or the WZC, the adapter
receives a correct IP address but after 1 hour, no more network / Internet
                    access.

What should I do next? ???

Addendum:  I have updated to version 2.25 firmware (QoS added support) and so far the "other" wireless adapter seems to work better than the DWL-130 one.

Just to post a follow up:  I finally found the principle cause to this reliability issue.  I am using Norton 360 v1 security software and the included firewall is blocking / limiting the SSID of the router.  This is the cause where the USB adapters are still having good signal rates but no network / Internet access.

Time to post a close on this thread.  After my previous post, I suffered a complete PC "meltdown" crash.  I have completely replace my PC and I am slowly re-building my software "base."  I have successfully found the cause of the wireless reliability.  Newer firewall software are now filtering wireless network SSIDs and depending on the rule settings,  the software may force the network to "deauthenticate."
