Post by: mjoyce91 on June 27, 2008, 09:43:16 AM
I was just wondering what settings every one thought are the best for this router to get the best possible performance. Thanks.

I have an xbox 360 connected, two PCs via hard wire, and two laptops connected wirelessly.

Then my recommendation is to set static information on the Xbox and DMZ the IP address of the Xbox so the NAT is fully open and you don't have to worry about ports being opened.

as far as setting a static on the Xbox you would just choose an IP that falls with in the range of the router aka: 192.168.0.56 would be the IP of the Xbox if the routers IP is 192.168.0.1. then you would just go to the advanced tab of the router settings page and choose firewall settings on the left and enable the DMZ with what ever IP is on the Xbox.

Whoa, DMZ? Why? You should NEVER DMZ anything. It's not a good solution. Besides DMZ bypasses QoS and I believe thats what he's trying to do.

He was half right, however. It's best to have the XboX have the same IP all the time. But you dont need to static it, the router has DHCP reservation. This allows you to enter the MAC address of your XboX in to a field and give it a desired IP.
Then router will then ensure that the XboX always has this IP.

Next is QoS, here is a FAQ on configuring that.
If you still need help post again.
