I hope that someone out there can answer my question. I bought into "N" for faster transfer speeds (especially for backups). However, when I measure my transfer rate it never exceeds 3.6MB\s after working at this for nearly a month. I have tried all forms of security, wireless settings, etc. but this is the best that I can get. Have I been misled about the expectations of "N" or is this realistic? 14x faster; I think not. In all fairness I am using a linksys "N" adapter at this time as I haven't been able to get my DLink card for my laptop yet but I doubt that is going to make much difference. I am connecting at 300mb\s through the wireless from a distance of 3 feet. Is there anyone out there that can provide me an understanding of what I am seeing or a realistic expectation for "N"? I do get 26MB\s when using hard wire through the router so the computer hardware other than the wireless is not the problem.

there are a great deal of things to take into consideration when working with Draft N. First and most important, the Draft N connection is still in its beta stage and is ****e to allot of different problems. Dlink states that with a Draft N adapter and a Draft N router from DLink's product line you can get a connection rate of 300Mbps. but some of the other things to account for is the data transfer rate of your PC's, is your PC capable of doing better then 3.5? just because the router and adapter are connected at 300 does not mean your PC can actually transfer at that rate.
I hope this information is helpfull. and i am sorry if you were missled by the sales market for the Draft N connection expectations.
