Title: share point utility error!
Post by: tthava on December 30, 2010, 11:07:24 AM
Trying to setup a BACKUP HD behind the Router with shareport (USB). I can install the Shareport utility in my PC but when i try to install it on the router, i get an upload failure error msg" The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed."
im the ADMIN on the router, and not sure what is the cause, any help!
Thanks

Router: DIR655
FIRMWARE: A3 , 1.35NA

The shareport program is only installed on the computer, you don't have to install anything on the router.  You just need to enable Shareport in the router's settings.

Ok, so i just have it on PC, and i could see the ext HD behind the router in shareport utility (saying available) but when i click on 'connect" it thinks for a while and go back to available.

under setup tab> USB settings>my USb type is: SHAREPORT (not WCN config..).
then rebooted the router, still its not connecting...
any other thoughts ?
thanks!

I don't use the USB port for Shareport so I only have general knowledge of its use.  There is a dedicated Shareport Thread on here maybe they can better help you.

You said you enabled USB for Shareport in router, and then rebooted...but you didn't say if you Saved the changes before rebooting the router.....

Personally, I gave up on shareport on my 655 after many hours of hit or miss, especially when I moved my home pc's over to win 7.....  I went and got a small USB print server off ebay; it only allows one-way communicaions with the printer (can't see ink levels), but it works everytime I need to print....
