Title: Help! "Dead 323"
Post by: jgj10 on July 18, 2008, 12:11:04 PM
I have had my DNS for about a year (maybe a little less).  I came back from Lunch and all of the lights are off on the front of the unit.  The only thing running is the fan -- it appears the logic board is not booting?

The only issue leading up to this was the right LED was about 1/2 as bright as the left -- but still functioned.  I'm on a UPS (I work for a UPS company so it better be) and no other external issues.

So I have two drives loaded with data not spinning in the box?????

Any ideas??

My Config:
-Firmware 1.05
-2 500GB drives
-about 50% utilized

Yes just did that.

Here is the next question.  Please give me a sanity check on installing the new box WITHOUT LOOSING what's currently on the drives.

- Power up unit without the drives?
- Confirm the new unit is at 1.05 (matches current box)
- Run web interface and set box to RAID 1
- Reinstall the drives in original slots and restart

Is this right?  What should I do to try and ensure that I don't loose the data on the two mirrored drives?

Thanks in advance.

That is correct. No data will be effected by this process. Once the DNS-323 is started it should show up in the Easy search just as it did before.
