I have WPA2 (AES)
802.11G/N
20/40 Auto set (Although for some reason in settings it says 20MHz not auto)
I have a g laptop connecting seeing 130 and saying that it is 20MHz in Dell wireless utility. I may ignore that if i didnt see a neighbours connection at 270 with 20/40, so it would seem logical that given my settings i would see it as a 300, 20/40 network (although clearly i would connect at 54 and 20).
I will be getting my dwa-556 this week and id rather have the bugs kinked out before then.
Why is my computer lying to me!!!

Is it not going to broadcast on the 40 until a N client tries to connect? Any ideas?

There's another thread explaining that:
- Intel wireless N chipset (Centrino 1) is only capable of 130 Mbps (hardware)
- The latest firmwares have some kind of delay that only sets 40 MHz after 30 minutes or so.
I'm on holiday so can't look for the text file I found with some beta firmware) :)

Now only Intel that is effected by the 130MB/s.. Check your manufacture specs to see before you buy any adapter or laptop. Also not that a lot of third party vendors clearly state if you look in the specs that their Draft-N is really First-Gen N. Big difference so be careful what you buy. As for G you should be okay if you use WPA DES, I find using WPA2 DES tends to slow the G-mode only connections.
