I just purchased two new DSM-750s but when trying to play recorded shows or live tv I get a 'video error...files are not available to play the video', or words to that effect.
Playing music, looking at photos, internet tv, etc all work just fine.
I called customer support and they had me update the firmware but that didn't help.
Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Some additional info:
Meida Center is on Vista 64bit Ultimate
DLink 655 802.11n wireless router.
Could one of these be a problem?
-
I doubt that any of these are are culprit of your problem. I use a DIR 655 and Vista Home Premium x64 and am not getting that error with live TV or prerecorded TV. It might have something to do with your TV tuner car. What do you have installed?

Thanks for the suggestion. My tuner card is a Hauppage but i doubt if that is the problem because it works on the PC plus i doubt that the tv card is being used when streaming recorded media.
Any other suggestions?

Assuming that everything is ok with the router and the signal strength , I'm tending to think that there might be something wrong with the 750's ... although it would seem odd that the problem would be exhibited by both of them; unless, of course, they're from the same bad batch :-(
I have a similar problem playing audio files which have been ripped to my hard-drive as WAV files with Media Player. The 750 gives me the same sort of error get get with the recorded TV files. However, in my case, this error has already been confirmed by someone here at D-Link who was able to re-produce the error I get with playing WAV files. Perhaps in your case it really is some sort of firmware issue. In any case, make sure you get someone at D-Link to check into it, and let us know how you made out.

What is the files format and properties? And are you using the Media Center Extender function or using WMP11 as your media server?
-
the file format for recorded tv is dvr-ms, i don't know what the file format is for live tv.
I'm using this as a media center extender.

Hmm this should not be an issue. Are you connected wirelessly and what firmware version is on your DSM-750?
-
i am connected wirelessly thru a dlink 655 router and i installed the latest firmware from the dlink website.

Have you tried it wired to see if you have the same issue?
-
My guess is you've damaged your Vista MPEG decoder when messing around FFDShow and the Vista Decoder Pack. The only easy solution to your problem is to the reinstall your Vista x64 OS and not put either FFDShow nor the Vista Decoder Pack on your computer. If you need DivX/XviD playback install DivX from DivX.com. If your using MPEG4, I suggest buying Nero Ultimate 8 and install it.

i'll try it wired and give that a shot. i'll post my results in a day or two.
