Title: Email Username Character Limit?

I'm trying to setup the email alerts to email me, but when I set it up to send using my email address and password, it says that the username cannot be longer than 31 characters.  Most people's username for their email is their entire email address (including me) and my email address is longer than 31 characters.  Is there any other way to get this working?
