Title: Laptops can't use my D-link router
Post by: LouisM on January 29, 2011, 10:59:54 PM
Okay, so i've been working on this problem for hours now. I did consider myself good with computers but im stuck.
I have the D-link DIR-825 router with the dual band, it's never caused me problems, but my wireless laptops can't use it anymore, at first they couldn't even see the SSID even though it was broadcasting. I fixed that and now they connect to the internet but no web pages load. The strange thing is my desktop, itouch and ps3 all connect to it fine.
I've tried everything I know how but i'm just stuck now.
Please help me!

I don't know exactly why this is happening and would need to know more about your hardware but I just spent 3 days fighting these things. So these are some of the issues:

What mode is your adapter and 825 set for, n? But make sure they match.

Once when I set the profile to meet FIPS the signals disappeared, try turning it off.

Install the new 2.05 firmware.

Several times I reset the router and started over, but save your config to reload if you want to later.

Make sure the network is a Home one & run the Homegroup trouble shooter.

Turn off windows firewall  & maybe the 825's until you get it going.

Make sure NAT & DHCP sever are on and set right with the right default gateway.

Good luck

If the laptop is connecting, from a command prompt (start - run -cmd), use the ipconfig /all command and make sure everything is normal.  Also, try pinging the gateway address, 192.168.0.1 (stock configuration).  It's likely an ip resolution issue versus any kind of security/setting issue, since it's making a valid connection.  Once you've verified the internet is active on other sources, check that your ip address is set to auto assign in the tcp/ip properties (if DCHP is turned on in the router), or assign the laptop one manually in the 192.168.0.XXX range and 255.255.255.0 subnet with 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and DNS (if everything is in stock configuration).

Check all / any anti-virus / software firewalls.  These can block the wireless networks unless you tell them to "not block" (aka "trust') the wireless networks.
