I have a DIR-655 with the newest firmware and the Shareport utility on my Vista machine. When I right-click the Shareport tray icon it shows no router connected (supposed to be the top option in the menu). Am I missing any steps to have Shareport recognize my router? I've tried restarting my computer and router. Thanks for any help.

What do you have connected to the USB port on the router?
-
I connected a Lacie external hard drive.
-
Are you running any firewall software on your system ?
-
Yes I have firewalls but I disabled them and I still saw nothing. I'll try again to make sure.

I uninstalled my anti-spyware and anti-virus (getting new ones anyways) and still nothing. Just to make sure everyone understands my issue the Shareport icon is red and when I right-click on it there is no router shown. In the Shareport manual the router shown checked is dlinkrouter, I don't have this. Any ideas?

Could you give a resume of your router settings? There is always a possibility that a specific setting blocks shareport access...

SOLVED: I uninstalled/reinstalled the Shareport Utility and it now works. Thanks to all who replied.

Hi all,
I'm experiencing the same problem. I indeed HAVE reinstalled the shareport utility (like 50 times). Any other advice?
What else did you do, FMtriple?

I have the same issue. Shareport works on 2 Vista PC's however on my XP Machine it states "No USB Device detected" and the router is not displayed on the Shareport Device. Any one have any troubleshooting options? There appears to be minimal Shareport documentation available.

Same problem here, have reinstalled the utility no result on my Vista 32 bit ultimate machine connected via Ethernet cable to the Router.
I was able to install successfully on a Vista 32 Home editon wirelessly connected machine.

I'm experiencing the same problem: My ethernet-connected PC running XP can't see the thumbdrive attached to my DIR-655 using Sharepoint (like the other posters have said, it doesn't see the dlink router either) but my wireless-connected laptop running XP can see it just fine using sharepoint. I've tried un-installing and then re-installing Sharepoint on the wired computer, rebooting everything afterward, etc but that didn't help.
If anybody has figured out how to fix this would love to hear suggestions -- thanks!

I have the same issue. Too bad the "extensive" manual does not address this apparently common issue. I have three vista computers on my network -- two wired and one wireless. All three show the sharepoint icon without the router listed. I have tried to reinstall with no improvement. Any suggestions appreciated.

Not sure if you guys checked the support site lately but we recently posted a new version of the shareport utility.

Three guesses:
1) Try v1.0 on the support page for the 655
2) If you have a VMWare product installed that puts Virtual NICs in your system, shareport won't work
3) Have you looked at your existing NICs and noted what protocols/services you have installed?
Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage Network Connections -> Right-Click on the device -> Properties
Vista Users would normally have:
Client for Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
TCP/IP v4
TCP/IP v6
Link Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver
Link Layer Topology Discovery Responder
Anything extra and it may interfere with Shareport. If you happen to troubleshoot and disable a service or protocol and find it is the culprit, let us know. I continue to have problems because I have VMWare Workstation 6.5 installed and SharePort doesn't like the VMWare Bridge Protocol & Virtual NICs.
