Hello,
I am really disappointed by the DLink DNS-323 that I bought to use as a upnp server with my DLink DSM-510 players (I have 3 of them). Indeed, the DNS-323 does not seem to work well with DivX and Xvid. I am contemplating returning it to the shop if nothing can be done quickly.
Here is the problem:
- when fast-forwarding or fast-rewinding a Xvid or a Divx, then resuming normal speed, the video freezes
- when changing language (by pressing L/R button), same thing.
Please notice that the forwarding and rewinding work since the video plays faster, but the problem occurs when resuming normal speed. Also this occurs on all xvid and divx I have, which were encoded with the most popular encoders out there: autogk for xvid and dr.divx for divx.
The problem comes for sure from the DNS-323 since my DSM-510 has been used successfully and without these problems with the same videos on 3 other UPNP servers that I have been using for a while :
- Lacie Ethernet Big Disk (running TwonkyMedia)
- TVersity on my PC
- EyeConnect on my Mini-Mac.
Is DLink aware of this problem ? Can we expect to have a firmware fix soon ?
Thank you

Good luck, welcome to the challenges of the 323
when I fast forward I get a freeze or an audio sync problem and have to exit the movie and come back to it to correct the audio sync.
Luckily the 323 keeps track of where you last were on the movie

Have you tried the video via USB as well on the DSM-510?

Im using it for the PS3 via network connection, that is why I bought it.
Can it be connected to the PS3 via a usb hookup and retain the network option? If so I may try that although that is inconvenient as the whole point of NAS UPNP is to have a network

Yes I am aware of this I was recommending you try this as a troubleshooting step. I am looking to see how the PS3 handles the same file without any Transcoding from the Media server installed on a PC
