Title: Surf the web
Post by: aabshire on October 05, 2008, 01:27:35 PM
I have a question that can't find the answer for.

It seems great to be able to watch/listen to my media from my PC to my LCD tv in the living room but Can you us this to also extend the desktop to the TV?

One thing I want to be able to do is to surf the web and also watch web videos from my desktop in the office to the LCD in the living room.  Yesterday I our local college football teams away game was available on the internet and it would have been great to send this from my desktop to the TV.

I know this seems simple but I have not found it stated anywhere that I could just "surf the web" or watch streaming video off of a webpage as opposed to the things in the Media Center application.

Thanks

I think you're going to have a problem watching online video "live" (besides, the bandwidth just usually isn't there).  However, if the video file is available for download, and in a compatible format, this is, Windows Media or another format that the DSM-750 can decode, then you will be able to stream it form the PC to your television.  The tricky thing is making sure that the file is in the appropriate format.  I hope that D-Link will improve and expand the types of files the 750 can handle.

This device does not have a web browser. You may want to look into the DPG-1200 (PCtoTV). This device will give you access to you PC on you television. you can use you browser or watch movies just as you do on your PC.
