I upgraded my firmware from 1.20 to 1.21 w/ stuff. My internet connection doesn't work. I contacted Road Runner and they stated it was the router. I have hard reset etc... If i type in 209.131.36.158 I will go to Yahoo! but extremly slow.. Like 24 baud modem slow. If it type in www.yahoo.com i get the page not found error. I can connect fine with the modem connected to the computer but then the other 4 wireless users are unalbe to connect... what gives??? is it this new
- Added SecureSpot 2.0
- Added SharePort features
- Fixed email notification issue
Any ideas?????

Can't begin to guess about your problem, but you should know that this firmware upgraded fine and it is working fine here. Go back to your previous software. I assume you saved the settings, and then reloaded them after upgrading, right?

Get this v1.21 without securespot firmware, it's more stable and works much better than the v1.21 with securespot firmware.

The v1.21 with securespot firmware has plenty of bugs and long list of problems reported by consumers. Eg. wireless module of the router would keep restarting itself whenever 'save settings' is clicked in the web GUI, even for fresh factory default.

Unalbe to connect to router to reset back to 1.20
Tried all the tricks i can think of... Just bought a new Linksys.

A few minutes worth of work and you could've had it connected. Crazy n00bs.

Yeah, if 1.21 doesn't work why not just go back to 1.11. Buying a new router is a bit overdone. The extra features are 'nice to have' and 1.11 works perfectly for ...connecting to the internet. I suppose that's the main feature it needs. It's a fairytale that something new (firmware) is always better.

IF YOU CAN ACCESS THE INTERNET VIA IP ADDRESSES BUT NOT DOMAIN NAMES:
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PUT IN A PRIMARY/SECONDARY DNS SERVER IN THE WAN SETTINGS OF THE ROUTER
THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM
YOU CAN GET THOSE ADDRESSES FROM YOUR ISP
OR USE GENERIC ONES (4.2.2.2/4.2.2.3)

Or, in short, RTFM

LoL. Probably double NAT and modem sits at 192.168.0.1, hence the linksys (192.168.1.1) working.

In all fairness to the person started this thread about their problems I have to say that the magazine review that convinced me to purchase a d-link router also stated that the d-link is very hard to set up. Still I wanted more speed. The bottom line is that after a few days if you cannot figure out how to use something then maybe you should get something that you can understand. So far I cannot get the d-link wireless to work properly either and I do not consider myself to be too new to routers. I have successfully set up several airlink, linksys and even a belkin. The remote computer that is the object of the d-link wireless installation cannot keep a signal on the d-link. For now it is communicating with a airlink wireless access point that is connected by wire to the d-link. But since inclusion of the d-link router even that wireless has problems with "server not found" messages now and then. I quite well may put the airlink router back in the system as everything worked even if it was below 54g max speeds.
It would be very helpful if us noobs could find some answers to;
why is it that the signal keeps dropping out when using the dwa-142 with the DIR-655
why does the dwa-142 fail to see any wireless signals when upgraded to version 1.30 firmware
why is it when using the wireless side of the d-link you get so many "server not found" messages

I have a pretty complicated home. I have wireless printer, three ROKU music players, three Mediagate video players, a laptop, PDA, two desktops, and a QNAP NAS. The DIR 655 has worked very well for me. It does take some time to figure it out. For example I can't take advantage of N because I have old generation devices that can't use it and require old security WPA. Some of my wireless devices are behind a brick wall and are away in a detached garage. I have no issues with dropped servers, but the signal does get affected with other objects moving in between. A lot of problems are due to noise in your neighborhood.
I wish I could help you more but I do not know anything about the dwa-142... Al

Well, this could be caused my many things. Wireless interference or just a corrupt driver installation. You can eliminate wireless interference by placing the router in a higher location in the room. You can remove close wireless devices such as telephones/baby monitors/etc. You could change the wireless channel being used (The most common are 1,6,11). You may want to re-install/upgrade the wireless adaptor drivers. All of which are on support.dlink.com.
why does the dwa-142 fail to see any wireless signals when upgraded to version 1.30 firmware
Interesting problem. You can try removing the drivers completely and installing 1.30 again (Rather than 'updating'). What wireless utility are you using? Are you getting a message other than "No wireless networks found in range"? You may have a 3rd party wireless utility taking over (Dell: Intel Proset utility/Dell WLAN connection utility. HP: Access Connection Manager. Sony: Smart-wi utility must have WLAN enabled, etc, etc).
why is it when using the wireless side of the d-link you get so many "server not found" messages
Well, I wish I could give you a specific answer. Perhaps if you tell us how often this occurs and when (Right when you turn on your computer? etc). Server not found is just a message saying you can't view a website for some reason (obvious, I know hehe). You might want to reset IE, delete cookies, etc. Do you experience the same issue when using another browser?
I'll check back here if you respond.
Best of luck,
